Mar 22, 1998 --
My name is Duy Ly. I came to the US with my family in 1994.
The first time I am here, it was very difficult for me to learn anything. After one month I had a job and I had it easy. Work and life in the USA isn't so hard as Vietnam.
I was born in Vietnam and grew up in a small village and and the principal occupation of my family was farmer. My parents worked hard, sun up to sun down and they worked everyday. Because they wanted us to get an education, I went to school and they also wanted me to have a good occupation when I grew up. When I finished high school, I went to college. I studied the Chinese Medicine in Saigon and I worked part time to support myself.
After three years, I finished college and I went to work as a certificated Chinese Medical Practicioner. But my family had troubles My father was very sick and my family sold the farm so we could take care of my father. The Viet Cong didn't like my family because my father worked for the US government in the Vietnam War. After that my family had no farm and my father had no job. So we came to the US. In 1994 we were able to come to the US because of an agreement with the US that anyone who worked for the US government during that time could emigrate. I work hard today as a machine operator at North West Manufacturing in Seattle. I go to school at night.
